My first post! Welcome to Mama Somm, a place I hope you visit often for tips from me, a certified sommelier who wants to rid the pretension from the wine profession!
Since Halloween is here today, but gone tomorrow, I'd better focus on something relevant in the wonderful world of wine--the upcoming holidays and some fun, easy pairings!
Stressed over what to write about, I got distracted thinking about Chex Mix, something I do often as a mama. Suddenly, the first pairing unveiled itself; salty Chex Mix and Champagne! Since Champagne isn't exactly affordable, especially in this economy, let's re-think this. Chex Mix and...Prosecco! Yes, I can already taste it. The buttery, worcesteshire, Tabasco, salt-laden, crunchy goodness of a fifties classic paired with a fizzy, caramel apple-tinged Valdo Prosecco from Italy.
The lesson here is this; Anything salty pairs with anything bubbly, in the sparkling wine sense. You are more than welcome to chug a PBR with salty snacks, too, lord knows I've done that, but that's a topic for another time.
Mama Somm recommended Italian Prosecco producers:
Valdo, Riondo, Cavit Lunetta, Bisol and Zardetto. All are fairly easy to track down.
That's all for today. The rumbly in my tumbly has spoken. I'm off to melt the butter...
